(Overland Park, KS., 2/18/2015) -- The Crescent Peace Society (CPS), a Kansas City area interfaith organization, today reiterated its condemnation of the ISIS terrorist group following the killing of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya.  CPS also condemned two deadly attacks in Denmark, one at a free speech event and the other targeting a synagogue.

"Today Kansas City Area Muslims join with Muslims around the world in denouncing the shocking murder of Egyptian Coptic Christians by Daesh,” said CPS President Ahsan Latif. Daesh is the Arabic name for ISIS or ISIL which rejects its self-proclaimed status as the “Islamic State.”  “Daesh has proven to be a monstrous organization whose brutal acts have no foundation in any faith or ideology."

“In the same breath we condemn the attacks on people of faith and freedom of speech in Denmark. Such violent extremism is inexcusable and Muslims stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters and their right to practice religion peacefully and freedom to speak freely.”

In Islamic hadith (the record of the deeds and practices of the Prophet Muhammad), the Prophet strongly warned against maltreatment of people of other faiths. He said: “Beware! Whoever is cruel and harsh toward a non-Muslim minority, or curtails their rights, or burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against that person on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud).

CPS has previously joined with U.S. and World Muslim leaders by endorsing an open letter to the leaders of Daesh, refuting the ideology of the terrorist group ISIS and urging its supporters to repent and "return to the religion of mercy." The letter can be found at http://lettertobaghdadi.com.

The Crescent Peace Society is a Kansas City area interfaith organization seeking to enhance the understanding of Muslim cultures through educational and cultural activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences among people of diverse cultures.  Its mission is to build bridges among faith communities, encourage dialogue, and promote justice and mutual understanding.
